Southern Charm: A Charleston City Guide

While I’ve spent a large majority of my life in the midwest, I’ve always felt that I’m a southern girl at heart. So when the long 4th of July weekend presented itself as the perfect time to plan a summer getaway, my fiancé and I booked a trip to Charleston! After spend three days in the Holy City, I have fallen completely in love with this pretty city. I always knew I would love it before even visiting…but within being there only a couple of hours, it was confirmed! We stayed right in the heart of the Historic District, which made most sights and restaurants easily walkable. Even thought it was warm and (extremely) humid, we spent our entire weekend outside exploring the best that Charleston had to offer!

On our way to breakfast Saturday morning Poogan’s Porch…yum!), I easily stopped to take no less than 40 pictures. Charleston has some of the best Instagram opportunities thanks to its amazing architecture, coastal style, and palm tree lined streets. And did I mention the pink?! It’s everywhere! Further proving Charleston is the city for me!

This next house was my absolute favorite! The hot pink exterior paired with the bright green palms trees…swoon This house is located at the edge of The Battery and overlooks the harbor. If I go missing, you can find my on the second floor balcony with a sweet tea in hand!

After a full day of exploring, we got up early on Sunday and headed out to Sullivan’s Island for a day at the beach. The beach was something right out of a Nicholas Spark’s movie, and the water was the perfect temperature. We lunched at Home Team BBQ, recommended to us by a couple of different people and a quick walk from the water. The BBQ was delicious, especially when paired with their famous frozen pain killers! If you’re feeling wild, ask for a rum floater on top of your pain killer!

After a long day at the beach, we rode back to Charleston and spent the evening at a rooftop bar overlooking the city! We had a couple different places recommended to us, but ended up at The Rooftop Bar at Vendue. It has incredible views of the water and downtown Charleston! If you go, make sure to head up to the top floor for the very best panoramic views.

After looking it might rain on us, we were treated to a beautiful sunset! The perfect ending to our beach day!

Our last morning in Charleston was the 4th of July! Since our flight was so early the next morning, we had a fairly laid-back last day in Charleston filled with delicious Southern food, walking the College of Charleston grounds, and watching fireworks over the water!

How cute is this front stoop? I have a weakness for unique entryways, and this lion door knocker takes the cake! I also spotted this amazing mailbox a few houses down!

It was hard to say goodbye to such a charming city, but it was good to be back in Chicago after a weekend on non-stop fun! On our flight home we got to watch the sun rise over the clouds…the perfect ending to our Charleston trip!
