Golden Girls Miami 40th Birthday
Happy Friday, y’all! If you follow us on Instagram, you know that we have been on a little bit of a 40th birthday bender these last few weeks! Today we are recapping our good friend Lorri’s “Golden Girls” themed 40th Birthday we celebrated in Miami! As queens of swag, we knew we had to do something special for everyone to welcome them to South Beach!
Lorri loves The Golden Girls (I mean honestly, who doesn’t) and the theme seemed to fit perfectly for a weekend in the golden sun of Florida! Miami and South beach in particular is known for its’ art deco architecture and style, paired with colorful pastels. These colors against the beautiful backdrop of bright blue ocean and white sandy beaches make it the perfect place for a getaway!
We have come to understand that most people think of Miami as clubbing, bottle service, and scantily clad women. We do Miami a little differently, and like to stay in what the locals term “Sofi”, which is South of Fifth. This is a very residential area where my Dad actually used to have a condo. This is of course why all my friends and I love this part of Miami; it’s safe, clean, low key, and we know the area (and bartenders)!
Enough about that..let’s dive deep into our weekend activities! Friday we all arrived around noon and headed straight to the Marriott Stanton South Beach where we were staying for the weekend! This hotel is in a great location if you are looking for a low key area. The pool isn’t filled with 24 year olds in string bikinis but there is music playing and service so you can order drinks and food while laying out! The hotel itself is great; it is a standard Marriott type hotel. It is no glitz and glam and we love it because of the location. Everywhere we like to go besides our fave outside bar at The Delano, is within walking distance!
Friday night we had dinner at Prime 112 which is one of our all time faves. I mean, last time we were there I took a selfie with Khloe Kardashian and they were filming the show a few tables over! This is always a celeb hot spot, but beyond that the service is impeccable, it is a Miami classic, and the food is always outstanding! After dinner they surprised us with the most decadent piece of mint chocolate cake for Lorri’s celebration!
After dinner we headead back to the hotel which is literally across the street, so we could save up for Saturday! The next morning we woke up and walked to Big Pink for lunch which is also a block from the hotel! Big Pink pretty much always has a wait, has great people watching, and amazing food. The portions are enormous, but everything is absolutely delicious! And of course, it’s PINK!
After lunch we headed back to the pool and beach for some relaxation! Our Golden Girls 40th birthday cups came in handy for rosé by the pool and our mini sunscreens did as well! Notice the saying on the sunscreen referring to “Shady Pines” the retirement home where where Sophia lived! The hangover kits were saved for Sunday morning (lol), but they definitely came in handy!
The Golden Girls themed koozies were also a hit; especially the Blanche quote on the back!
Saturday afternoon we headed over to Monty’s our favorite happy hour spot which overlooks Miami Beach Marina! This is the type of place you wear a cover up to; people are coming and going off all the boats, and the food is great too! This trip we left our cover ups and instead opted for our adorable Golden Girls themed 40th tank tops! These tanks turned out so fabulous and so many people complimented us on them! Of course we had to get a group pic!

Saturday night was the big birthday night and we chose to celebrate at Joe’s Stone Crab! Joe’s is one of the oldest restaurants in Miami at over 100 years! The wait staff have all been there for decades, they don’t take reservations, and there is a methodology to everything they do; from the way they greet you, the way they seat you, where they seat you..there is a reason for all of it! The wait here can be up to two hours (so plan acordingly!) but the bar has fabulous cocktails and great service. There is also a courtyard you can pass the time in. Because my dad was a regular and I also frequent Miami so much, we have a little “in” with the maitre d, but I will never reveal my secrets (or his name)! LOL!
Without a doubt, order the stone crabs. The restaurant is only open for a portion of the year because stone crabs are a seasonal find, and they taste more like lobster than crab. It is absolutely decadent and the mustard sauce served with them is beyond!
Again, incredible service, so much fun and one of the most delicious and fun meals we had all ever had! Cannot recommend it enough! After dinner we headed to The Delano which is as clubby as we get! The back bar by the pool is so chic, SO expensive (lol), and a great scene! Sunday was Cinco de Mayo and we decided to do pizzas and margaritas at Nikki Beach instead of tacos! HA! Nico and I had so much fun together and even though we obvi talk everyday, it was fun to have some girl time!
Our last night we did an early Italian feast at Call Me Gaby. This place is around the corner from the Marriott as well, direcly across the street from Joe’s. The patio is adorned with black and white striped umbrellas and overflowing bouganvilla. Unfortunately for us, it was raining so we didn’t get to enjoy that! Inside though is quaint, lit by candlight, and fabulous food. We rolled out of there and straight to bed!
Monday was a mix of the Monday scaries, goodbyes, and delayed flights! LOL! We had such a fabulous weekend celebrating Lorri and it was the BEST group of friends. Don’t you just love easy, no drama girls’ trips with laughter, wine, and old stories?! We all agreed it was one of the best weekends we all had had in a long time! This Golden Girls Miami 40th Birthday had it all; lots of food, lots of laughs, and lots of wine!
Remember, there is no such thing as too much beach
